Data Center Cold Aisle Enclosure Design
Confidential Client Design / Engineering to Provide Cold Aisle Enclosure Installation
Problem:
Diamondback Design Group (DDG) was requested to provide Engineering and Design services for a new cold aisle enclosure for existing racks in rows 3 & 4 in the S/E sector of the Data Center. Field verify all existing Architectural conditions. Identify existing wall, door & equipment locations. Verify existing ceiling layout and any other existing architectural items that will be impacted by the new design. Design a new enclosure for existing server rack rows 3 & 4 similar to the existing enclosure for rows 1 & 2 and based on TRAX vendor products. The existing Ceiling system and lighting will remain as is. Identify Intel standard specifications as they apply to this project.
Solution:
Diamondback Design Group provided a field as-builts to verify existing Mechanical conditions as they related to project. Obtained KW heat load model from customer for HVAC basis of design. Provided high level heat load removal capacity for existing ceiling supply grilles in cold aisle and RMF return in hot aisle and designed rearrangement of these items for optimal capacity. Provided Field verified locations and number of ceiling supply grilles and RMF perforated tiles. Designed the nominal arrangement of sprinkler heads for coverage in the new cold aisle enclosure. Head coverage was required both inside and outside the hot/cold aisles since fusible links on the ice curtains are no longer allowed.
Design was completed in 5-weeks.
